What is LASIK Surgery?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a refractive surgery procedure that can reduce or eliminate nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. During this outpatient procedure, a LASIK surgeon uses a beam of light from a laser to reshape the front surface of your eye, also known as the cornea. This is done by creating a flap on the corneal surface, which is peeled back to allow the laser to start the reshaping process. Advancements in refractive surgery have made the procedures safer and more effective than ever, allowing for better visual outcomes with and more stable results. If you are considering LASIK surgery, Dr. Ramsey works closely with many local LASIK surgeons to provide the best quality pre and post-operative care.
EyeCare for You LASIK Consultation
There are many different factors that go into determining a good candidate for LASIK surgery. The patient’s prescription, ocular surface (structure and shape), and tear film are just a few things that go into this decision. After a careful prescription measurement and ocular health evaluation, Dr. Ramsey will discuss LASIK surgery options with you. If you are determined to be a good candidate for the surgery , Dr. Ramsey will refer you to a local ophthalmologist who will conduct the procedure.
Eye Exams after LASIK Surgery
After the LASIK surgery is completed, it is critical to continue annual eye exams to evaluate the health of the eyes. Patients who have had LASIK can have increased risk of developing eye disease. During your annual exam, Dr. Ramsey will perform a careful ocular health examination to monitor for problems such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, ocular melanomas, cataracts, post refractive surgery dry eye, macular degeneration and many more.
